What this converter does
The Hijri–Gregorian Date Converter switches dates between the Gregorian calendar used worldwide and the Hijri (Islamic) calendar used across the Muslim world. It works in both directions: pick any Gregorian date to see its equivalent in the Hijri calendar, or enter a Hijri day, month, and year to see the matching Gregorian date.
This is useful for planning around Ramadan and the two Eids, checking Islamic anniversaries, filling in official forms, or simply satisfying curiosity about today's date in both systems. The page loads both dates for today automatically, works in English, Arabic, and Spanish, and everything runs inside your browser — no date you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use the converter
- Gregorian to Hijri: choose a date in the "Gregorian date" field and click "Convert to Hijri". The Hijri date appears below, with the full Gregorian date (including the weekday) underneath for confirmation.
- Hijri to Gregorian: enter the Hijri day (1–30), choose the month from the list, and type the Hijri year, then click "Convert to Gregorian".
- Read the result in the box under the button you clicked.
- Change any value and convert again as many times as you like.
- Switch the language at the top to see month names and results in English, Arabic, or Spanish.
How the conversion works
The converter follows the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official civil calendar of Saudi Arabia, using the calendar data built into your browser's internationalization system. Each Gregorian date maps to exactly one Hijri date and vice versa, so the converter can verify both directions of every conversion.
Because the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the solar year, Islamic dates move earlier each Gregorian year, and months do not follow a fixed pattern — which is why an accurate converter is handy.
Example
Enter 26 June 2025 in the Gregorian field and click "Convert to Hijri": the result is 1 Muharram 1447 AH, the Islamic New Year. Going the other way, entering day 1, month Muharram, year 1447 returns 26 June 2025, a Thursday.
A practical case: you receive an invitation for a wedding on 10 Rabiʻ al-awwal 1448. Enter those values and the converter tells you the exact Gregorian date to put in your calendar.

Frequently asked questions
Which Hijri calendar does the converter use?
It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official civil calendar in Saudi Arabia and the most widely referenced tabular Hijri calendar. Other countries may announce dates one day earlier or later based on local moon sighting.
Why is day 30 sometimes rejected?
Hijri months have either 29 or 30 days. If you enter day 30 for a month that has only 29 days in the Umm al-Qura calendar, the converter explains that the date does not exist and suggests trying day 29.
Can the result differ from the date announced in my country?
Yes, occasionally. Civil Hijri calendars such as Umm al-Qura are calculated in advance, while some dates are announced locally after the new moon is actually sighted. The difference is never more than one day.
What date range is supported?
Reliable conversion covers roughly Hijri years 1300–1600, which corresponds to Gregorian years from the late 1800s to the late 2100s. Dates outside this range show a friendly warning instead of a wrong answer.
Does the converter account for time zones?
The calendar day is the same worldwide for this conversion; it treats your chosen date as a plain calendar date without a time of day, so your location does not change the result.
Why do Hijri month names look unfamiliar in Spanish or English?
The twelve month names (Muharram, Safar, Rabiʻ al-awwal, and so on) are Arabic, so they are transliterated rather than translated. Switching the page to Arabic shows them in their original script.
Is my data saved or sent anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you enter is stored or sent to a server.
