Currency Converter

What this calculator does

The Currency Converter changes an amount from one currency to another. It supports six widely used currencies: the US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), British Pound (GBP), Japanese Yen (JPY), UAE Dirham (AED), and Mexican Peso (MXN). It is handy for planning trips, estimating the cost of shopping from abroad, budgeting money you plan to send overseas, or getting a quick idea of prices in another currency.

Important: the converter loads exchange rates that are refreshed once a day from a public market data source, and the time of the last update is shown under the result. Rates still move during the day, and banks and exchange services add their own margins and fees. Treat the result as a close guide, and check the exact rate with your bank or provider before any real transaction.

How to use the Currency Converter

  1. Enter the amount you want to convert, for example 100.
  2. Choose the "From" currency: the currency you have now.
  3. Choose the "To" currency: the currency you want to convert into.
  4. Click "Convert". The converted amount and its currency code appear below the button.
  5. Swap or change currencies and convert again to compare.

Formula

Every rate is stored relative to the US Dollar (1 USD = rate). The calculator converts the amount to USD first, then to the target currency:

Amount in USD = Amount ÷ Rate(From) Converted amount = Amount in USD × Rate(To) Combined: Converted = Amount × Rate(To) ÷ Rate(From)

The examples below use sample rates of 1 USD = 0.92 EUR = 0.81 GBP = 134.5 JPY = 3.67 AED = 17.5 MXN. The live converter uses the latest daily rates instead, and rounds the result to two decimal places.

Example

100 USD to EUR: 100 ÷ 1 × 0.92 = 92.00 EUR.

100 EUR to MXN: first convert to dollars: 100 ÷ 0.92 ≈ 108.70 USD. Then convert to pesos: 108.70 × 17.5 ≈ 1,902.17 MXN.

Because both steps go through the dollar, you can convert between any two supported currencies, such as GBP to AED or JPY to EUR.

Frequently asked questions

How often are the exchange rates updated?

Once a day. The rates are fetched automatically every day and the update time is shown below the converter. If live rates can't be loaded, the page falls back to built-in approximate rates and tells you so.

Why is my bank's rate different?

Banks and exchange bureaus usually add a margin to the mid-market rate and may charge fees too, so the rate you actually receive is often lower than the reference rate.

Which currencies are supported?

USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AED, and MXN. You can convert in either direction between any two of them.

Why does the calculator convert through US Dollars?

Storing every rate against a single base currency keeps the rates consistent and lets the tool convert between any pair without a separate rate for each combination.

Can I convert decimal amounts?

Yes. You can enter amounts such as 49.99. The result is rounded to two decimal places.

Can I use this for business or legal transactions?

No. The results are estimates for information only. For invoices, contracts, or tax reporting, use the official rate from your bank or the relevant authority.

Is my information stored?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser, and no data is sent or saved.
